  • Under the helm of the Subject Head (SH), Mr Teo Yee Ming, the ICT Department leads and manages ICT based curriculum and facilities in Hai Sing Catholic School. The team is staffed with personnel from subject areas such as the CPA and EBS, with an operational committee (ITMR Committee) in charge of the MOE Cockpit and results generation. ICT facilities within the school is tendered well by a committed ICT Services Team, made up of ICT Manager and SSOE Technical Assistants.
  • The department is fully committed to an intensive IT-in-curriculum environment for which every student in the school feels that they are part of the school’s Info-communication Technology (ICT) integration programme. The department supports the various MOE and school initiatives through the different Instructional Programme (IP) departments in Hai Sing Catholic School, thereby keeping the school in the forefront of technology for years to come.   

  • ICT is an essential part of the school curriculum and classroom delivery often rides on various ICT curriculum approaches (which includes tools, pedagogy) below to achieve a higher level of ICT involvement for students. 

      • Assessment for learning: Mentimeter, Kahoot, Flubarooo   
      • Collaborative Learning: Google, Nearpodo   
      • Blended learning (video): Edpuzzle, Seesawo   
      • Mobilised learning: Learning out of classroom,Home Based Learning, Drone Programming by CPA students from 3 Graciousness (using block programming techniques which are linked to CPA’s Scratch Programming)

      • Digital Simulation Modelling: PHET, Virtual Reality, Geogebra, Sketchup, Inkscape, Graphmatica
      • Gamification of learning : Learning out of classroom, Drone Programming, Infocomm Club programming competitions, ALP lessons

  • In Singapore schools, Computer Labs are an extension of students’ academic and classroom learning, where Applied Learning becomes a reality – actualised from didactic teaching and learning. Students have been exposed since their early childhood days to IT infrastructure, and our students must continue to reap the benefits of an IT education (with ready infrastructure) such that when they go on to their next level of education or career, they must be IT-ready, IT-proficient and if achievable (and ideally), IT-masterful

  • In Hai Sing Catholic School, Computer Labs have been used for Learning Journeys, Instructional Programs (such as Humanities, Science, Mathematics, Art, Mother Tongue and English) coupled with technical subjects such as Computer Applications and Elements of Business Studies.  Students go on the Internet for online lessons, social media interaction, online surveys and flipped learning.  Learning management systems (LMS) and Home Based Learning (HBL) are also regular features for the students here. 

  • Teachers can control what students see on screen such as the use of Lanschool to monitor their usage.  CCE lessons provide a further insight into the dos and donts' of the online world, where Cyberwellness is taught to students.  All IP lessons will further reinforce and embellish the message of Cyberwellness.  Teachers also makes use of the ECG portal to steer/guide students’ career interests, amongst many things that school deploy ICT infrastructure for students. 

  • It is important that our students have a head start into a complex world that beckons them, and our Computer Labs aimed to provide the necessary and relevant learning facilities for all students of different abilities and streams   

  • Key goals and achievements for the ITMR  includes: 

      • the completion of the one Home Based Learning (HBL) for Sec 1-3 (Picture 3), the continual evolution of the Learning Management System (LMS) to support school’s initiatives (eAttendance system, online lessons and eDiscipline module). Various new and exciting initiatives have been implemented, which includes Broadcast TV, Flipped Classroom and the use of mobile tablets in our ubiquitous Learning Journey for MathTrail. 

      • Infrastructure-wise, the school went on a SSOE2 Seat exchange (Picture 4), CES2.0, ICON 2.0 and SLS.

  • Moving on to the future, the ICT Department is committed to providing a measured yet innovative approach towards excellence in ICT for teaching and learning. Challenges abound with ever evolving landscapes. 

  • A number of exciting projects are underway.

      • We are looking to further the use of mobile devices for flipped learning across various IP.  The school will broaden the use of Broadcast TV , and looks forward to using wireless infrastructure for networking and access such as Apple TV, ScreenBeam usage, .  
      • Cyberwellness will underpin all usage and for all students, which may include collaboration with outside vendors to ensure continuous vigilance online. 
      • The school is exploring the extensive use of virtual reality goggles for lesson delivery in the areas of IP subjects and innovative teaching. 
      • Exciting new initiatives abound with teachers using new ICT tools in class and beyond the four walls!
