Dance Club

Introduction

“Dance is an art, paint your dream and follow it” - Steven Thompson.

Dance Club is one of the popular choices for CCA among students who are passionate about this form of art. Dance is not just about performing but it is a platform for students to be more discipline and gracious in their life.

The dancers are trained to be confident individuals, adaptable to any changes of venue, settings and choreography to suit any situation and to have compassion for fellow dancers who needed help. They are groomed to be independent in following up their own trainings and brushing up their techniques and be gracious as a dancer. Potential leaders are given the opportunities to lead the club. In fact, most of the time, the senior students can be seen training and coaching the junior dancers. Through Dance Club camaraderie are formed and dancers believed that as a family, they are responsible for one another and it’s their duty to inform and advice those who are not on par with the rest in terms of attitude or techniques. Hence, the Dance Club aim to develop students to not only be good dancers but all-rounded individuals.

“Dance is the hidden language of the soul,” so said Martha Graham. And we couldn’t agree more.

All dancers will be able to express their preference to join either Modern Dance group or Malay Dance group and they will be developing well at their area of interest.

English Drama Club

Introduction

Hai Sing Drama Club is a fun and vibrant CCA that has seen tremendous improvement in our involvement in school events and in the SYF Central Judging. The aim of the Drama Club is to develop confidence in students to express themselves.

We have been involved in school events such as Speech Day, Health Week, Chinese New Year, assembly programmes and for the upcoming Environment Week. We have achieved Bronze award for SYF Central Judging 2011 and a Certificate of Accomplishment for SYF Central Judging 2013. We have also taken part in inter-school events like the National Fire & Emergency Preparedness Skit Competition (NFEC) held at St Patrick School in 2012 and had put up a Macbeth skit in March 2014 at the Shakespeare Short Play Festival “Short Shakes” at St Joseph Institution.

Our dedicated drama trainers are professionals who are committed to develop our students in the areas of stage directions, stage management, voice projection, physical and verbal expression, stage confidence, posture, sound and prop management and more.

During our training sessions on Mondays and Thursdays, our members are given ample opportunities to lead a team of students in various roles such as director, stage manager, playwright, and costumes and props manager. We have also sent students for play-writing workshop with playwright Haresh Sharma from The Necessary Stage.
